Flea Market Find: Vintage Jelly Jars & Bed Springs

With nothing better to do on lunch yesterday I ventured down to one of my favorite local shops, North Country Neighbors.  Not really searching for anything in particular, I had been on the look out for vintage jelly jars for at least a year and I finally found a set.  I got a set of 4 for $3.00.  I had seen them on Etsy, but the cheapest was $8 for a set of 4 with normally $10 shipping.  It just didn't seem worth it to me and I knew they would pop up somewhere eventually.

The reason I wanted them so bad, is they fit perfectly inside a bedspring!

 The uses are endless!

Dr. Pepper Rose Wreath at the Oddball Emporium

Today, I am dropping off a few wreaths to go on consignment at the Oddball Emporium in Potsdam.  One of the decoration sets that will be available there are these cute Diet Dr. Pepper can roses!  They are larger than my original roses b/c I am now creating them using my die cutting machine!  Definitely a unique Valentine's decoration.  Stop by the Oddball Emporium and check them out as well as a few of my other sets!

Recycled Candy Cane Decoration Set

With Halloween over its beginning to feel a little like Christmas time.  We haven't seen any snow yet up where we live which is shocking, but I'm sure it won't be long.  In preparation for Christmas I created this cute candy cane magnetic decoration set for my bed spring wreaths.

Created by twisting and shaping strips cut from a soda can!

I am honestly trying to work on my photography.  That is going to be one of my goals for the new year!  This set will be with me at the North Country Department Store this Saturday, November 5th in Philadelphia, NY at the Indian River School. 

Bedspring Banner w/ Magnetic Decorations

Last week I began creating banners out of almost all recycled materials.  Remember the "Autumn" Banner and the little "Boo" Banner, I did not like attaching these to plain string and also they weren't dynamic enough.  So I cam up with a recycled banner using the round tops cut off the top or bottom of bedsprings!  Then I just connected the circles with the smaller springs and voila a banner that can use the same magnetic decorations that my wreaths use, so it is even more versatile.  Very easy and quick to change the look of.  For example, I took all of these photos within a few minutes.  

I am going to offer 2 different sizes a small which will be what is show which is about 10 or 11 spring tops (I haven't decided what I like best) and a 15 or 16 spring top version.  These and the letter sets will be available at my next show, this Saturday September 10th from 12 - 5 in Downtown Massena for the Harvest Festival!

I just couldn't wait any longer! Halloween Bedspring Wreath

Yes I know it is still August, but Fall is my favorite season and Halloween is by far my favorite holiday.  The BF said I could not put up any fall decorations before labor day, but I think we may have to negotiate for September 1st b/c I just can't wait :).

The decorations for this wreath are phone book flowers dyed orange and a mini boo banner created by stamping letters on punches from a coca-cola box and attaching them to music note pinwheels.  It is so cute!

I'm gearing up for my next show September 10th from 12 - 5 at the Massena Harvest Festival.  The show takes place on main st in Downtown Massena.  I will have a bunch of new Halloween and fall decorations for sale so stop by and see me!

What an Imagination! Mitralee's Bedspring Wreath

A fellow blogger and scrapbooker Mitra, purchased a wreath and music note pinwheels from me at the Waddington Homecoming Craft Show.  Look how amazing she made it, all it takes is a little imagination!

Recycled Phonebook Flowers with Tutorial :)

I hate the phonebook!  I think it is the biggest waste of paper (at least for my generation).  To make these flowers was the first time I've touched a phonebook in years.  When everything is so much easier to look up online why would you.  They should make getting the phonebook optional, so they don't waste so much paper!  To help limit the waste, I took last years phonebook, which was kicking around in the craft room b/c I knew I would find something to do with it and made these flowers:

The flowers have a soda can center that has been painted black, but they could also be decorated in so many other ways!

I also created a few with long stems and button centers :). 

And now the How To!

Supplies:

A phonebook or other thinner type paper (tissie, crepe, possibly even newspaper)

Green Floral Wire

Scissors

Step 1:  Rip three pages out of the phonebook

Step 2:  Stack the three pages together, accordian fold about 1/2 inch and then cut in half so you have 2 sections.  This will create 2 flowers.  

Step 3:  Take one of the halfs and wrap a long peice of wire around it to make the stem.

Step 4:  Carefully open up one half and pull apart the layers to fluff up one side.

Step 5.  Repeat the same for the other side.

Step 6.  Fluff up all the layers and shape into the flower.  Decorate the center as you see fit!

Recycled Book Pinwheel Wreath Decorations

The best neutral decoration I have made so far.  Made from the pages of an old book that I had already used the cover to make a clutch.  The pages are slightly yellowed with age and go perfectly with this wreath.  

Watch for these at my upcoming shows!  I hope to do several different variations as well as sheet music ones.

Once upon time....this was a pop tart box :) - Chalkboard Decoration Set

Its amazing what you can do with chalkboard paint.  It is by far one of my favorite things.  To follow my sustainable decorating theme, using my Fiskars Seal Punch, I punched out these seals from a pop tart box.  I then painted them white for the base coat and added a couple coats of chalkboard paint.  Be sure to let it cure for 24 hours! When you are sick of the letters, just wipe them off and write or draw something else!

The green gingham daisies are recycled soda can mod-podged with gingham scrapbook paper!

Hoping to make Strawberry-Rhubarb Jam tonight!  I'll let you know how that goes later this week!

I LOVE Arizona Cans, and I guess the tea :) & Massena Heritage Festival Craft Show is SATURDAY

My latest aluminum can madness is for Arizona cans.  I had never really had their products before except for the Arnold Palmer, but bought one last week just for the can and it turns out I actually like the tea too :).  The cans I used below were the peach green tea and the peach tea.  The colors on each can are fantastic, these two cans had light pink, dark pink, turquoise and off white!  This decoration set will be on display and for sale at the Massena Heritage Festival Craft Show at the Massena Arena, Saturday June 4th from 9am - 5pm.  Stop by and check out more of my new creations!
