New Shop Alert in Potsdam, NY - Maple Run Gourmet Grocery & Gift Emporium

Yesterday was the grand opening of a new shop in downtown Potsdam.  I went down on my lunch break to check out the Maple Run Gourmet Grocery & Gift Emporium.  The shop features all things maple.  I love maple syrup so of course this was the perfect place for me.  I was able to sample some of their specialty products, like the maple butter, maple candy, maple BBQ sauce as well as Maple Wine.  I loved the Maple Wine, it was drier than you think it would be, but it is currently not for sale as they wait for their liquor license.  There is also a selection of smoked meat and jerky.  A great selection of wooden kitchen products made from maple as well as gourmet/specialty kitchen items, like the crepe maker which I just may have to go back and get for my kitchen.  I left the store with maple, popcorn, a maple lollipop, maple candy, maple soda and maple pumpkin butter.  All of it was delicious, the maple soda was only "ok" for me, it tasted like carbonated maple syrup which can be a little much to drink a whole bottle of but it was interesting to try anyways.  So for a great gift or something unique for your next party check out the Maple Run Gourmet Grocery & Gift Emporium at 49 Market Street, Downtown Potsdam open from 6 am - 8 pm.

Etsy Shop: PheonixThread

I think for all of us who do not have kids out there dressing up our dogs is a good replacement.   Poor little Bubba has endured the t-shirt yarn sweater as well as other things I have created for him to wear (like his Christmas Bow Tie).  Etsy Shop PheonixThread has this down to an art.  She creates dog clothes out of upcycled garments, which makes her another one of the great recyclers out there.  I fell in love with the I Love NY dog tee, but its white so Bubba would have it a mess in less than 10 minutes, but I did request a black one if she ever comes across a black I love NY tee to upcycle.

Upcycled dog tee - I heart NY (Medium) - green, sustainable, handmade from old t-shirt
Upcycled I Love NY Dog Tee - $19.99

I will definitely be keeping my eye on this shop and I suggest all you pet lovers do the same!

♥ Ruffled Scarf 2 and Misty Hollow ♥

For Ruffled Scarf 2 I went to Misty Hollow yesterday and got great coordinating fabric.  For everyone who hasn't been to Misty Hollow in Potsdam, if you do any type of crafting they have the best selection around.  They have just about everything.  Beautiful fabric, a great selection of yarn, jewelry making, wood carving, block printing, calligraphy, scrapbooking supplies, baking supplies and so much more.  I have never been disappointed in a trip there especially since it saves me a trip to Joann Fabrics, that doesn't have near the selection on art/craft items.  If they don't have it they are more than willing to order it and if they think its a good item they will also try to keep it in stock.  Yesterday, I asked about elastic thread b/c originally I had ordered it and there is only 10 yards on a spool so it would be great if I could find it somewhere local.  They were very intrigued and had never heard of it before, so I showed them the bed sheet scarf and they loved it as well.  They opened there notion supply book, found it, ordering it for me and will call me when it comes in.  You can't get much better service than that!

So back to ruffled scarf 2, the fabric I used was significantly heavier than the original bed sheet, so when I sewed the two elastic thread rows down the scarf, I don't think it was enough to pull it together.  I am going to try tonight running at least 2 more rows with the elastic thread in hopes it will pull it together, check back tomorrow for the results!  It will be a beautiful scarf if I can make it work!  The images below are a very rough version of what I'm hoping will work in the end!
